I am an Associate Professorial Research Fellow at the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science and an NIHR School for Social Care Research Senior Fellow.

My research interests include innovations in the delivery and organisation of adult social care; evaluation of complex interventions, including issues relating to the measurement of user experience, quality and outcomes; and the governance, performance and reform of long-term care systems. I have advised the English Department of Health and Social Care, Social Care Wales, OECD, NICE and NIHR on these topics.

I currently co-direct the Social Care Rapid Evaluation Team (SOCRATES) – a new team delivering rapid evaluations of social care innovations and service development – and am the incoming Deputy Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Policy Innovation and Evaluation with responsibility for the social care team and innovation theme. I also lead the Supporting Adult Social Care Innovation project — a five-year study which seeks to build the evidence base to support the adult social care sector to start-up, implement and spread affordable innovations that work well for everyone.

All of my work is underpinned by a concern with making the research useful to and usable by policymakers, practitioners and the public.
