Jaeyoung Yoon

I am an Associate Professor of Social Welfare at Sahmyook University in Seoul. My career, spanning over two decades, is dedicated to advancing social welfare, disability studies, and inclusive education. I’ve served as the Executive Director at the Eastern Seoul Rehabilitation Center and the Head of Planning at the Adventist Welfare Foundation. I earned my Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Sungkyunkwan University. My research focuses on person-centered planning and community-based rehabilitation, aiming to enhance inclusivity and empowerment for individuals with disabilities. Through publications and teaching, I contribute to social work methodologies and advocate for human rights.

Research interests

My research interests are deeply rooted in advancing the field of social welfare with a particular focus on disability studies. I am dedicated to exploring person-centered planning and community-based rehabilitation, aiming to enhance inclusivity and empowerment for individuals with disabilities. My work often transcends traditional boundaries, reflecting a commitment to policies and practices that prioritize the holistic needs of every individual in society. Through my academic and professional endeavors, I continuously seek to foster collaborations that not only address the immediate needs of those with disabilities but also work towards creating a global society where inclusivity is not just an aspiration but a reality.

  • 2007: “Factors Affecting Employment Among People with Mobility Disabilities in South Korea” in the International Journal of Rehabilitation Research and “Evaluation of the Pilot Project of Independent Living Centers in Korea and Future Tasks” in the Korean Journal of Social Welfare Studies.
  • 2009: “Service Structure of Independent Living Centers for Disabled People using Concept Mapping” in Rehabilitation Welfare and “A Descriptive Study on the Discrimination of Korean War Mixed Race Individuals” by Sungkyunkwan University’s Social Science Research Institute.
  • 2010-2023: Publications addressing the utilization of social welfare facility evaluation results, the development of a participation scale based on ICF, the identity of Chinese Koreans, environmental scales for disabled individuals, and employment policies for disabled people. Significant work includes studies on the support needs of people with developmental disabilities, the service environment for disabled welfare centers, and a phenomenological study on parenting stress among Korean mothers of deaf children.

  • 2000-2022: Translations and co-authored books focusing on independent living, social welfare quality management, and person-centered planning. Noteworthy works include “Quality Management of Social Welfare Services” (2005), “Disability and Social Welfare” (2012), “Principles and Practice of Advocacy for People with Intellectual Disabilities” (2013), and translations like “WHO ‘CBR (Community-Based Rehabilitation) Guidelines'” (2014) and “Person-Centered Planning and Meaningful Life” (2019).
