Bert Vrijhoef

Bert Vrijhoef is CEO at Panaxea, the Netherlands and Chairperson of Dutch Stroke Services Knowledge Network.

Previously he was professor and HSR domain leader at the National University of Singapore, professor Integrated Care at Vrije Universiteit Brussels, professor Chronic Care at Tilburg University, director of research at the University Medical Hospital Maastricht’s Department of Integrated Care, and associate professor at Maastricht University’s Department of Health Services Research. Vrijhoef was leader of the program Redesigning Health Care at the Care and Public Health Research Institute CAPHRI, program director of Master Health Care Studies and program director of Master Health Services Innovation at Maastricht University, and leader of the team Task Sharing at Maastricht UMC+ . He served as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Care Coordination. Vrijhoef was awarded a Harkness Fellowship from the Commonwealth Fund which allowed him to work with the MacColl Institute, Group Health Cooperative in Seattle.

Vrijhoef’s research focus is on innovations in health services and health policy. Examples of these are: people centered integrated health care, e-Health, redesigning health service delivery, and task sharing. He applies health services and policy research, health technology assessment, and implementation science. Bert works with patient’s organizations, healthcare organizations, NGOs, universities, policy makers, and industry partners.

He has (co)authored over 425 peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters in books (for details please see ResearchGate). He was awarded Leading Researcher in Faculty of Health Sciences at Maastricht University, and has received awards from the Federation of Patients and Consumer Organizations in the Netherlands, the Dutch National Organization for Health Research and Development, and the Commonwealth Fund (New York, US).

Vrijhoef holds a Ph.D. from Maastricht University, and a M.Sc. from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
