About the Long-Term Care in China Interest Group

The Long-Term Care in China interest group aims to support dialogue and collaboration around the development of long-term care (LTC) systems in China, in the context of rapid population aging, changing family structures, and evolving social policy. Influenced by Confucian traditions, long-term care in China has historically relied heavily on family support. However, with increasing urbanization, reduced household size, rising female labour force participation, and growing internal migration, the capacity of families to provide care is becoming increasingly strained. These changes highlight the urgent need to build a more comprehensive and sustainable system of social care that complements family-based support.

This interest group provides a dedicated platform for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to engage with the specific challenges and opportunities facing long-term care in China. By bringing together domestic and international perspectives, the group will facilitate policy-relevant research exchange, identify emerging evidence, and support collaborative efforts to inform practice and reform. The group will organize a series of webinars and discussions, share publications and resources, and foster partnerships across institutions and sectors.
