Exploring new and “old” ethical issues when using new technology in LTC

GOLTC Technology and Long-Term Care Interest Group webinar

Date: 24 April 2025

Time: 15:00 to 16:00 BST  (you can check your local time here.)

In this webinar, we aim to highlight the better known and emerging ethical concerns with the use of new technologies in the care of older persons. The webinar will thus highlight ethical issues that we already worry about, which many of the researchers and practitioners participating in this session are likely to be aware of. However, using unpublished data from three stakeholder groups (older persons, professional caregivers, and family caregivers), the webinar will seek to highlight the possible newer ethical issues that are arising when we plan and seek to employ new technologies to care for older persons.

The webinar will cover:

1. Introduction to the Global Observatory of Long-Term care and welcome (Adelina Comas-Herrera, Care Policy and Evaluation Centre, LSE, UK)
2. Introduction to the GOLTC Technology and Long Term Care Interest Group (Jacqueline Damant, Care Policy and Evaluation Centre, LSE, UK; Paul Freddolino, School of Social Work, Michigan State University, USA; Tenzin Wangmo, Institute for Biomedical Ethics, University of Basel, Switzerland)
3. Presentation: Exploring new and “old” ethical issues when using new technology in LTC (Tenzin Wangmo, Institute for Biomedical Ethics, University of Basel, Switzerland)
4. Discussion (Jacqueline Damant, CPEC, LSE, UK; Paul Freddolino, School of Social Work, Michigan State University, USA)
