Amrita Roy

Dr. (Capt.) Amrita Roy possesses a diverse background, combining experience in industry, teaching, and research, which enables a multifaceted understanding and application of knowledge across domains of mental health and rehabilitation.

Industry experience

After graduation, Dr. Roy served in the Indian Army for five years (February 2010 to January 2015) as a Nursing Officer in the Military Nursing Services. She has provided clinical and administrative services in various general and specialized wards of military hospitals. Dr. Roy brings practical insights from this industry experience and a hands-on understanding of real-world applications in healthcare systems and management.

Teaching Experience

Dr. Roy teaches various core and elective courses spanning mental health, psychosocial rehabilitation, and research. She also served as the founding program director for the ‘Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)’ licensed course – ‘M.Sc. in Psychosocial Rehabilitation’ started in the academic year 2023-24.

Research Experience

Dr. Roy’s research is centred on mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation. She has published several peer-reviewed journal articles and presented at national and international conferences. She won the J K Trivedi Award for her doctoral research paper at the National Conference of the Indian Association of Social Psychiatry in 2021. Her areas of research interest include mental health rehabilitation (including rights and advocacy, education, livelihood, and social aspects of persons with mental health conditions), women’s mental health, digital mental health, and healthcare administration.
