Claire Reidy

Dr Claire Reidy, CPsychol, PhD, AFBPsS is a Chartered Psychologist, Social Scientist and Implementation Scientist at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. Her research focuses on the real-world implementation of digital health technologies and self-management support for long-term conditions, with a particular emphasis on equity, user experience (patients, carers, staff), and system-level complexity. Drawing on qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, Claire has led and contributed to national evaluations of digital interventions in the NHS, exploring how innovations are adopted, embedded, and experienced across diverse populations and care settings. She brings lived experience as a person with type 1 diabetes and contributes to England’s NHS and policy advisory groups. Her work aligns with the Global Observatory of Long-Term Care’s mission to advance person-centred, evidence-informed care systems for ageing and chronic conditions globally.

Research interests

Claire’s research spans applied health services research, digital health, social science and health psychology, with a focus on:

  • Implementation science and evaluation of health innovations at scale

  • Digital health inequalities

  • Self-management and peer support in long-term conditions

  • Participatory approaches to intervention development

  • Use of ethnographic methods and complexity-informed and sociotechnical theory in healthcare research and evaluation

She is particularly interested in how complex interventions interact with real-world care systems, and how patients’ lived experiences can shape and improve the delivery of long-term care.
