Ruang Bidan Indonesia Foundation

Erni Rosita Dewi

Erni Rosita Dewi is an Indonesian midwife, educator, mother, and the founder and director of Yayasan Ruang Bidan Indonesia, a non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening the capacity, leadership, and professional development of midwives across Indonesia. For nearly six years, she has led educational and advocacy initiatives that have reached tens of thousands of midwives through a nationwide network of volunteers and collaborators. A Chevening Scholar, she completed an MSc in Advanced Midwifery Practice at Anglia Ruskin University, United Kingdom, building on her midwifery education and professional experience in Indonesia. Exposure to midwifery education and practice in both Indonesia and the UK has strengthened her commitment to respectful, rights-based, and woman-centred care. In 2026, she was selected as a participant in the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Midwife Leaders Executive Sponsorship Programme, supporting emerging midwifery leaders worldwide.

Her work focuses on respectful maternity care, reproductive rights, midwifery leadership, and strengthening maternal and reproductive health systems. Drawing from both professional practice and lived experience of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, motherhood, and their many complexities, she is particularly interested in how evidence, education, advocacy, and public engagement can improve women’s experiences of care. She is actively involved in research, publication, and international professional development initiatives, with a particular focus on perinatal mental health, maternity care systems, and the strengthening of healthcare services. Through research, leadership, and collaboration with professional, academic, and community networks, she seeks to bridge evidence, policy, and practice to advance equitable and woman-centred care in Indonesia.
