Javier Jerez Roig

Javier Jerez-Roig is an Associate Professor at the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), with accreditation (“Profesor Titular”) by the ANECA (National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation) and one 6-year research period by AQU (2012-2017). After 10 years of clinical practice as a physiotherapist, he started research in 2012 showing high interest, proactiveness and independence as he published several papers before starting research training and his Masters’ degree. During the Master and PhD he was involved in several projects and his networking and work capacity have facilitated his h-index 24 and ≈1900 citations (scholar.google.es/citations?user=oqdKJe0AAAAJ&hl=ca). Since 2017 he lectures at UVic-UCC (subjects of “Community Physiotherapy” and “Geriatric Physiotherapy”) as a Serra Húnter fellow. He has been promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia in 2023.

Jerez-Roig has broad experience in observation and intervention studies on healthy ageing, especially in methodology, data analysis and comprehensive geriatric assessment. Jerez-Roig has a previous rich experience at the Glasgow Caledonian University through a 6-month research expedition in 2019, thanks to a (José Castillejo) grant from the Spanish Government. Jerez-Roig demonstrated a high level of independence, leading a work on sedentary behaviour and urinary incontinence. He is an editorial member of BMC Geriatrics and the JFSF (jfsf.eu/EditorialBoard.php), reviewer of the Cochrane Collaboration and 2 Special Issues in IJERPH (mdpi.com/journal/ijerph/special_issues/Pelvic_Health). His 90 publications (49 as main author), 72 works presented at conferences, 25 conference attendances, 8 invited presentations, 3 organised scientific events and 1 symposium (chair) show he has strong capacity to disseminate his work to a specialist audience (es.linkedin.com/in/javier-jerez-roig-2b3766b2).

Along with collaborators from Spain and UK, Jerez-Roig started a research line on sedentary behaviour and bladder health. He has shown high leadership capacity as the head of an Undergraduate Programme in Physical Therapy and the research group M3O (coordinating ≈60 researchers) (mon.uvic.cat/m3o/team/javier-jerez-roig/), Care Area Coordinator of the Institute for Research and Innovation in Life and Health Sciences in Central Catalonia (IRIS-CC), Research Delegate of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare of the UVic-UCC and Research Adviser of the Catalan Board of Physiotherapists. Jerez-Roig has supervised 23 undergraduate final works, 6 Masters and 7 PhD (+4 ongoing, expected to finish between 2024 and 2026) from Spanish, Lithuanian and Brazilian universities. JJ has different international partnerships, mainly with UK, Brazil, Lithuania, Finland, Costa Rica and Colombia (e.g. Visiting Lecturer at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and the Lithuanian Sports University).
