Joel Faronbi

Dr. Joel Faronbi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Exeter, UK. He is a registered nurse and obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Nursing from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 2001, 2008, and 2015, respectively. He completed a postdoctoral training at the Frail Elderly Support Research Group (FRESH) at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2017.

Additionally, he has a postgraduate certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Exeter in the UK and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is a licensed General Nurse (2001) and Public Health Nurse (2002) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and a Registered Nurse (2022) by the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK.

Dr. Joel Faronbi possesses strong communication skills, both oral and written, as well as expertise in data analysis and interpretation using various software tools, including SPSS and STATA. He works effectively in a team and has been involved in several funded projects, including “Development and feasibility testing of structured social interaction and physical activity participation programme for the community dwelling older adults – A Pilot Project” (CARTA Re-entry Grant-Principal Investigator), and “Ghanaian nurses’ perspective on ethical aspects and challenges in caring for older people” (THET grant -Principal Investigator).

Research interests

Joel clinical and research experience focuses on promoting the well-being of older adults, particularly in preventing and managing chronic illnesses within this population. He has expertise in quantitative, qualitative and mixed method research and versatile in the use of computer applications such as STATA and SPSS (Quantitative), Nvivo (Qualitative research), and Endnote (Reference manager). Through teaching, research, and community service, his work has positively impacted the lives of older adults. He has collaborated with colleagues to develop a model aimed at promoting physical activity and social interaction among this demographic. Currently, he leads the Global Health Pillar of the Academy of Nursing, University of Exeter and coordinates the Student’s Global Elective Placement. Together with other scholars, he has published over 60 articles in reputable journals faronbi joel olayiwola – Google Scholar.
