Marina Boccardi
Psychologist and Neuroscientist, she worked over 10 years in the neuropsychological and psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with moderate to severe dementia in a special care unit for patients with behavioral disorders in the nursing home of Chiari (Brescia, Italy). From year 2000, she started research activities at the Laboratory of Epidemiology, Neuroimaging and Telemedicine at the Institute San Giovanni di Dio – Fatebenefratelli in Brescia, Italy, performing applied research studies, mostly in neuroimaging, in the field of ageing and psychiatric conditions. In 2016 she moved to the University of Geneva, where she carried out methodological studies aimed to validate diagnostic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related disorders (ADRD). Here, she led investigations leading to the definition of clinical guidelines, like the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) and European Academy of Neurology (EAN) guideline for the use of FDG-PET in the diagnostic procedures for ADRD. In 2020 she moved to Germany, working for DZNE (Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen) and the University of Rostock. Here, she developed methods for improving the quality of evidence produced in biomedical research studies, to enable the use of algorithms for evidence-based decisions, and facilitate the implementation of innovative interventions. From November 2024, she is Prof. of Psychology of Ageing at Center of Competence on Ageing, in the Dept. of Business Economics, Health and Social Care of SUPSI (The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland).
