Sarah Penney
Sarah Penney is a Lecturer in Nursing at Ulster University and Associate Director of My Home Life Northern Ireland. She is a nurse academic with expertise in leadership and workforce development within long term care, with a particular focus on how leadership influences organisational culture, staff wellbeing and the quality of care experienced by older people.
She currently chairs the Northern Ireland Frailty Education Working Group, leading the development of the regional frailty education programme to enhance workforce capability in the care of older people living with frailty.
Before joining academia, Sarah held clinical and leadership roles in acute nursing, long term care and the voluntary sector, experiences that continue to inform her research, teaching and knowledge exchange activities. Her methodological interests include qualitative research, implementation science, quality improvement and instrument development. She is committed to working in partnership with practitioners, organisations and policymakers to develop evidence that informs practice, supports workforce development and enhances the lives of older people living in long term care.

| Research interests | Sarah’s research and professional work centre on leadership development, healthy ageing and frailty, dementia care, relationship centred practice and the implementation of evidence into practice. She has extensive experience of designing, delivering and evaluating leadership development programmes for care home leaders and works collaboratively with health and social care providers, policymakers, higher education institutions and the independent and voluntary sectors to strengthen leadership capability and improve outcomes for older people. |
