About the Australian Long-Term Care Interest Group

The Australian Long-Term Care Interest Group (ALTCIG)

Our Interest Group aims to foster critical dialogue and promote multi-disciplinary collaboration, during this contemporary transformation of the Australian aged care sector and the recent historical shift to a rights-based legislative framework.  Like many other countries, Australia faces growing challenges in providing aged care to older people, including an ageing population with increasingly complex health and social needs, workforce shortages, the need to maintain equitable access across vast geographies and the importance of delivering innovative and culturally responsive care. More specifically, Australia’s aged care sector faces a complex contextual challenge as it must respond to an increasingly diverse ageing population while also supporting and sustaining a culturally and linguistically diverse workforce that delivers care across varied social, cultural and health needs.

This interest group provides a dedicated forum for academics, practitioners, policymakers, industry bodies and consumer advocates to engage with the complex challenges of modern aged care delivery in Australia. We seek to:

  • Facilitate Research Exchange
  • Inform Policy and Practice.
  • Support Collaborative Innovation
  • Foster Professional Partnerships

The ALTCIG will host a regular series of webinars, distribute policy briefs and peer-reviewed resources, and serve as a collaborative hub for those committed to shaping a world-class long-term care system in Australia.
