We are delighted to share the new GOLTC Long-Term Care system profile for Chile, written by Victor Andrés Fica, Pablo Villalobos Dintrans and Jorge Browne.
Highlights from the LTC system profile for Chile:
- Chile has recently taken a step towards a public Long-Term Care system, with the approval of a National Care and Support Policy in 2024, aiming to establish a National Care and support system as a fourth pillar of social protection, establishing a right to care. This has not yet started the implementation phase.
- In the meantime, public LTC support remains fragmented and care support is overwhelmingly provided within families, mostly by women.
- New policy developments include a register of unpaid carers to identify, recognise and reach carers as well as teleassistance and telecare pilots.
