We are delighted to share the updated country profile for Costa Rica, written by Alexander Chaverri-Carvajal.

There are four main recent changes since the previous profile that was published in 2023:

1. Regulation has closed access to services for non-poor individuals.
2. A cash-for-care benefit targets low-income women caring for people with severe dependency.
3. The platform cuidar.cr enables caregivers and care recipients to offer and contract home-based care services without subsidies.
4. Following a successful randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Heredia, other local governments are introducing telecare services; however, these are funded exclusively with local resources, without national support, potentially widening coverage gaps.
