31 Oct 2024
JapanGOLTC Migration, Mobility and Care Workers Interest Group webinar
Date: Monday, 23 September 2024
Time: 1pm – 2pm BST
Long-term care systems face chronic shortages of care workers and ever-increasing demand for care. While the role of migrant workers in care systems is longstanding, different policy approaches to international migration and recruitment are emerging in response to shortfalls in the care workforce. In the first of a series of GOLTC webinars, we consider the policy context, experiences and lessons regarding care worker migration and recruitment in Japan, and the implications for policy and research.
The webinar covers:
- Introduction to the Global Observatory of Long-Term care and welcome (Adelina Comas-Herrera, Care Policy and Evaluation Centre, LSE, UK)
- Introduction to the GOLTC Migration, Mobility and Care Workers Interest Group (Isabel Shutes, Department of Social Policy, LSE, UK)
- Presentation: The Intersection of Migration and Care Work in Japan (Reiko Ogawa, Chiba University, Japan)
- Discussion with Interest Group members
